Imogen Porteous is an emerging painter from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. She graduated from the University of South Australia in 2015 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Painting), continuing her education to complete a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art and Creative Practice in 2016. Imogen was selected as Carclew's artist in residence for 2017, during which she participated in many exhibitions and group projects. In 2018, Imogen travelled to Champagne, France, to undertake an artist residency at Chateau d'Orquevaux. This was an opportunity to expand upon her professional practice, create connections with other artists and respond to new environments.

Imogen's art practice focuses on experimental mixed media painting and drawing. A love of paint materiality, organic line, human expression and sense of colour give Imogen's artwork a distinctive, bright and feminine character. Imogen uses her sensitive painting process and research to understand her own gender identity and feminist ideology. In recent abstract paintings, Imogen investigates the painted surface as a projected space for the feminine body. A sense of intimacy is created as the paint is applied directly by the artist's hand.
